"Are they triplets?" "No, I found the other one in the parking lot and thought, 'why not?'"

Trains Trains and more trains…..

Recently I took the kids on the VIA train to Ottawa to visit their Dad who has been there working for the past month. Yes, myself and three kids in a small space moving at a high rate of speed for 10.5 hours one way and 9.5 hours back. They did a lot better than I expected! The morning of our departure the I was up by 3:15am and the kids were up and moving by 3:30am. We were out the door by 3:50 and en route to pick up my father in law with a quick pit stop for gas. We were at the station by 4:40 and on board just after 5am. The train departed at 5:30am. I really had thought that the kids would fall asleep once we started moving. I was wrong. There were a few 10 minute cat naps throughout the morning. We arrived at Union Station where we had 2.5 hours to kill.

We spent most of that time trying to figure out where to go, where to find lunch, where to find a bathroom and then again figuring out where we needed to be for our next train. The kids actually passed up McDonalds for bagels and scream cheese (that’s why they call cream cheese)!! We boarded our next train and headed for Ottawa. Finally two out of three kids decided they were too tired to stay awake. Madeline snuggled with me and slept for about 2 hours and Aidan finally found a comfy spot in his seat and slept as well. Isabelle managed to colour for a while and then watched the same scene from Frozen about 300 times!

We arrived by dinner time and I was so ready to be off that train and so were the kids! During our time there we visited museums and Carlton University to take the kids for a swim. The weather was actually perfect and we got a lot of miles out of the kids! We had such a great time visiting and all three of the kids have told me that they wished we lived in Ottawa. The train ride home went well. We only had 20 minutes in Union Station this time and thankfully it was not too difficult to get to where we needed to be for the train back to Windsor.

Would I do this again? Yes. I’d like to wait until the kids are a bit older and are a little better at amusing themselves and I’d also like for all the renovations to Union Station to be done! That place was torture!!!

We are home. I’m getting excited for back to school! The kids are looking forward to school as well! We also have our upcoming Evergreen trip which I think I am looking forward to the most! 1 whole week of not having to COOK!!! I can’t WAIT! It will have me well rested to start making lunches 5 days a week!

Isabelle is starting grade 1 and is so excited to have a new teacher but gets teary over the thought of not having her kindergarten teacher. Madeline and Aidan are excited to meet their new teacher and to see their friends again that we have not seen over the summer. Sadly for Madeline her little bestie will be going to a different school for SK. We hope to try and keep in touch with her though!

I will do my best to post some photos of our trip in the photo section. I am debating leaving Facebook as I feel like they are invading my privacy just a little too much these days. If I do so, I will be posting all my random and not so random thoughts on here as well as photos!
