"Are they triplets?" "No, I found the other one in the parking lot and thought, 'why not?'"

Back in September I had an eye appointment.  I decided that since it had been years since my last check up that it would be a good idea to have myself checked out.  Turns out my vision is pretty good.  However pretty good wasn’t cutting it.  I was straining my eyes to see up close and far away!  Ha!  Dr. said I’d probably be more comfortable with glasses.  So I went in the next day and chose my frames and put down half the cost of the glasses.  They said they would give me a call when they were ready.  That day was Sept 11th.  Yesterday, October 17th I decided to stop by the Vision Centre and see what was going on.  It felt like it had been a really long time since I ordered the frames, oh wait….it was a month!  So she showed me to the back and told me to take a seat.  Guess what!  They were there.  Waiting for me.

Their office is using a new system.  They send out a text message to let you know that your glasses are ready.  Or to remind you of an upcoming appointment or whatever other reason they may need to get a hold of you.  So apparently they texted me back in SEPTEMBER!  To let me know my glasses were ready to be picked up.  I received no such text.

The girl who fitted my glasses said she was sorry that no one followed up by making a phone call to me.  I of course decided to take the nice route and tell her it was no problem.  It really wasn’t, like I said my vision is pretty good.  However, I was thinking what if it wasn’t!  What if I really needed the glasses and your stupid text didn’t come though!  Seriously people, texting is for teenagers.  Texting is not for letting me know that my glasses are in, or that my pap test was clear, or that my appointment is coming up.  That’s what good old fashion telephones are used for.  Even more specifically a land line, because they are slightly more reliable.

From now on if a Eye Dr, or regular Dr. or any kind of place asks me for my cell phone so they can text me I am going to say I don’t have one.

Parenting and adulting is hard. There is no manual. No volume control. No self cleaning house and self refilling fridge. This is my story of navigating through the ups and downs of our crazy-wonderful life.

  1. That’s hilarious!!! I’ve been making appointments for when we are in Regina and they all want my cell phone number – when I tell them we don’t have cell service they can’t believe it!!! Guess I won’t be missing out on important texts!
