3 years ago today I woke up in my hospital room, was prepped and wheeled into the OR at the Inuvik Regional Hospital to deliver the twins. I can remember being so nervous, not about the procedure I was about to have, but how I was going to manage a 13 month old and two newborn babies. Baby A came first, it was a girl!! Surprise!! We had no idea what Baby A was until she arrived. Once she was out I felt enormous relief despite being numb from the boobs down. I think it was all my internal organs going back to where they used to be! A minute later, Baby B, Aidan was born! Both babies were taken to the nursery while the Dr’s worked on putting me back together!
Once I got back to my room, the twins were brought to my room so I could see them. I barely got to see them in the OR, so many Drs and nurses around. Ian had gone with them to the Nursery, I wanted him to be with them instead of me. I knew I was in good hands. It was good to see them both and get a chance to hold them together and individually. Those few nights in the hospital were long and tiring. The nurses did their best to help out when Ian couldn’t be around. He still had to look after Isabelle. Luckily we had great friends in Inuvik who were willing to help us out a lot with her so that Ian could be at the hospital over night to help me.
Today we had a birthday party at lunch time since Ian had to be at work tonight. I picked up a cake from Longo’s and put my own decorations on it. Half was dinosaurs for Aidan and the other half had some of the fairies from the Tinkerbell movies. Madeline and Aidan loved their cake. Now that the kids are all older and I will have more free time to get things done, this is the last year for purchased cakes. I could probably have made the twins cake today but fell really short on time. After lunch and cake the twins opened their gifts. Isabelle was a little put out that there were no presents for her to open. She also really struggled with letting the twins play with their new toys. I kept having to remind her to give them back and that she was not to take them if they were playing with their toys. It was a hard afternoon on her. Despite her alone time with me this afternoon while Madeline sang to her new dolly and Aidan slept with his new tractor-trailer, she still felt a bit left out of all the “fun” I guess.
You are all probably wondering how it has all been going since our 3 day potty training. It has gone really well. We still use pull ups at night-time, but that’s because I wasn’t going to try to force them into nighttime training yet. However, I hear all three kids in the morning taking their turns and going potty. Aidan has probably done the best so far. Maddy has had a few accidents here and there, but she is aware that she should have got to the potty. So all in all it’s been going well. I do enjoy not having to buy diapers anymore. The cost of them is ridiculous now! However pull ups aren’t cheap either, but we don’t go though them as fast since they only wear them when they sleep or if we are going to go out for an extended time.
The weather around here has been awesome. The girls have already been in summer dresses and Aidan has been in shorts and a t-shirt. It cooled of slightly yesterday but was nice again today. I could be okay if the weather would just stick around 18 degrees or even 20 with a cool breeze. It was so nice to get the windows open in the house, however a few times it was so warm in the house I thought I might have to get the A/C going!!
Well it’s been a long and chaotic day…I will leave you with some photos of the kids, then and now….Happy Birthday to my wonderful kids! I love you so much and I can’t wait to watch you grow and change over the next few years!! xoxoxo
