"Are they triplets?" "No, I found the other one in the parking lot and thought, 'why not?'"

Some down time….

I feel like I can finally have a bit of a break.  I feel like we have been busy since before Christmas with visits, outings, birthdays and other family events.  Now that our “busy season” has finally come to an end, I feel like I can sit back and relax a little.  No more birthday parties, cakes, decorations, cleaning up the house so people can come in.  It’s time to relax a little.  However this won’t last long.  I do need to make another annual sift though the kids toys and take out some of the toys that haven’t been played with or used in a long time.  And it really is time to clean out the basement and get things in order.  I think we’ve lived here long enough that we should do a really good spring clean up!  And then we can perhaps start to work on some of the small fixes this house needs.  My towel bar in my bathroom came off the wall a few weeks ago and I kind of miss it being there so hopefully that’s a fix we can do soon.  Also I think it’s about time I finally scrape the last of the wallpaper off the entry walls and get the house ready for some much needed paint!!  I am terrible and choosing paint colours and so I”m almost certain I will be going with one colour to do the whole house.  I can’t say how much longer we will be in this house and therefore I don’t really want to paint fun colours until I’m in a house I know I will be in for a while and will be able to enjoy.  Let the next people after us paint what they want.  I will just leave them a neutral palette that they can do whatever they want with.  Also for some reason my kids are really rough on the walls and so it would be nice to just have the one colour to have to touch up when needed.

As for the spawn.  They are all doing well.  They had a sleepover with Grandma E last night.  She came over so that the hubby and I could have a date night.  It was a much needed “grown up” night.  We haven’t had one of those in a while.  I didn’t let Ian in on my plans for us.  He was just told to be home on time from work and once he was home he was told how he should dress for the night, and not to eat too much before we went out.  I bought our movie tickets the night before so we would not have to wait in any lines just in case he was infact late from work.  We had a great time at the movie, we saw 21 Jump Street.  I don’t recall watching the show when it was on or re runs if that was the case.  I knew enough about the show to have an idea about what the movie would be like.  We both laughed the whole time and had a really great time.  We then headed over to Kelsey’s where we shared in our usual dinner from there.  It was really nice.  I hope we can do it again soon.  The kids were really good for Grandma.  They were treated to popcorn as a snack before bed.  And as well some little Easter gummies.  Then this morning they got to have breakfast with Grandma while I was lucky enough to sleep in a little extra!  Then I heard they did some Play Doh, colouring and of course some time with all the toys.

I have yet to book an appointment with our family dr for Isabelle.  She needs one last round of boosters before she can start school.  Might as well get that done before we get busy with the summer and forget.  Also I need to book a check up for the twins now that they are 3.  Also I’d like to get all three kids into an eye doctor and a dentist.  I’ve found a really good eye doctor that I’ve been to, now the trick is finding a good dentist.  There is a place here that deal with just children, so I’m going to check them out and a few other places and make a decision.

I hope the nice weather comes back soon.  The kids got used to the nice weather, especially the girls because they really enjoyed wearing their sun dresses and Aidan was enjoying all his cool t shirts.  Speaking of Aidan, he’s sporting a new hair cut.  I will try to post that tomorrow.  I only have the photos on my phone.  If you have facebook it’s on there also.

Happy Birthday!

3 years ago today I woke up in my hospital room, was prepped and wheeled into the OR at the Inuvik Regional Hospital to deliver the twins.  I can remember being so nervous, not about the procedure I was about to have, but how I was going to manage a 13 month old and two newborn babies.  Baby A came first, it was a girl!!  Surprise!!  We had no idea what Baby A was until she arrived.  Once she was out I felt enormous relief despite being numb from the boobs down.  I think it was all my internal organs going back to where they used to be!  A minute later, Baby B, Aidan was born!  Both babies were taken to the nursery while the Dr’s worked on putting me back together!

Once I got back to my room, the twins were brought to my room so I could see them.  I barely got to see them in the OR, so many Drs and nurses around.  Ian had gone with them to the Nursery, I wanted him to be with them instead of me.  I knew I was in good hands.  It was good to see them both and get a chance to hold them together and individually.  Those few nights in the hospital were long and tiring.  The nurses did their best to help out when Ian couldn’t be around.  He still had to look after Isabelle.  Luckily we had great friends in Inuvik who were willing to help us out a lot with her so that Ian could be at the hospital over night to help me.

Today we had a birthday party at lunch time since Ian had to be at work tonight.  I picked up a cake from Longo’s and put my own decorations on it.  Half was dinosaurs for Aidan and the other half had some of the fairies from the Tinkerbell movies.  Madeline and Aidan loved their cake.  Now that the kids are all older and I will have more free time to get things done, this is the last year for purchased cakes.  I could probably have made the twins cake today but fell really short on time.  After lunch and cake the twins opened their gifts.  Isabelle was a little put out that there were no presents for her to open.  She also really struggled with letting the twins play with their new toys.  I kept having to remind her to give them back and that she was not to take them if they were playing with their toys.  It was a hard afternoon on her.  Despite her alone time with me this afternoon while Madeline sang to her new dolly and Aidan slept with his new tractor-trailer, she still felt a bit left out of all the “fun” I guess.

You are all probably wondering how it has all been going since our 3 day potty training.  It has gone really well.  We still use pull ups at night-time, but that’s because I wasn’t going to try to force them into nighttime training yet.  However, I hear all three kids in the morning taking their turns and going potty.  Aidan has probably done the best so far.  Maddy has had a few accidents here and there, but she is aware that she should have got to the potty.  So all in all it’s been going well.  I do enjoy not having to buy diapers anymore.  The cost of them is ridiculous now!  However pull ups aren’t cheap either, but we don’t go though them as fast since they only wear them when they sleep or if we are going to go out for an extended time.

The weather around here has been awesome.  The girls have already been in summer dresses and Aidan has been in shorts and a t-shirt.  It cooled of slightly yesterday but was nice again today.  I could be okay if the weather would just stick around 18 degrees or even 20 with a cool breeze.  It was so nice to get the windows open in the house, however a few times it was so warm in the house I thought I might have to get the A/C going!!

Well it’s been a long and chaotic day…I will leave you with some photos of the kids, then and now….Happy Birthday to my wonderful kids!  I love you so much and I can’t wait to watch you grow and change over the next few years!!  xoxoxo

Day 3

Today went well. We had one poop accident, but it was so close to not being an accident that I’m not sure I will punt it as one. I think it’s safe to say that we did in fact get the twins potty trained in 3 days. They did a great job and I was really surprised by Aidan as I thought for sure it wasn’t going to click for him. In the end he did a great job. Both are really enjoying their big kid underpants and I’m glad they are!! No more overpriced diapers for us!! Hooray!!!

Progress Report: Day 2

So yesterday started out damp, today started out fantastic!!  Aidan wore the same pair of underwear all day long!!  No accidents!!  He even surprised me this afternoon when he looked over at me from the chair and said “Mommy, I just have to go poop.”  I wished him well, he went over to the potty, took off his underwear, sat down for a moment, stood up and shouted “I WENT POOPY!!!”  Ian went over to the potty and looked, and YES! There was a poop!!  We cheered and high-fived and Aidan did a little dance!  His reward was a new Hot Wheels car.  He was so excited to get his new Chevelle!

Madeline did well today also.  She only had to change her big girl panties once.  She had a tiny poop stuck in her cheeks which left a mark in her panties.  She got cleaned up and continued to do really well for the rest of her day by going pee lots on the potty!  Madeline is into giving a big thumbs up when she’s done!  We cheer each time we have any kind of success.

I’m really proud of how well the twins are doing.  I didn’t think it was going to go this smoothly, I guess we still have tomorrow to see how things go, but at the rate we are going I think I can safely say that it only took 3 days to potty train the twins!!

Isabelle had a wonderful day today at my Mom’s.  I drove her out there this morning and she and Grandma had a great day of crafts, going to a flower show, doing some shopping followed by chicken nuggets for dinner!  She fell asleep on the drive home and was a little disappointed to be home, but was very ready for bed after such a fun-filled day!

Day 1 of 3

The best way I can describe today:  Moist

Aidan went though 4 pairs of underwear before 10am and Madeline only had 1 accident which required new underwear.  Nap time went well and the afternoon saw Aidan do fairly well by only having two accidents.  Despite all the accidents, we had a lot of successes as well.  Aidan did quite well telling us that he had to go, and Maddy usually followed right after.  Sometimes it almost seemed as if they were trying to out “pee” one another.  If one went and got praise, the other had to go as well.  But hey, if that is what it will take for them to learn then I’m all for it.

I will update tomorrow night on day 2’s progress.

The time has come

I have said my farewell to Facebook for the next three days and also will be saying it to the net by the end of this post. Tomorrow is Potty Training for the twins. Come hell or high water those two will be out of diapers starting tomorrow. I am using a 3 day method that some lady who also had a bundle of kids has used and still uses to teach others with. I hope this method works because I am so done with poopy diapers and all diapers in general. The time has come for the twins to be big kids. I thought it be good to have this done before they turned three. Something else we will be celebrating soon!! Someone please tell me where the last threes years has gone. All of my babies are growing up and far to quickly. That being said, I really do enjoy watching them grow and seeing their personalities come out. They enjoy each others company and others times I swear I need to put them in separate rooms to play!

Well wish us luck. I know this is not going to be easy and I will most likely be cleaning up more pee and poop than normal. But it will be worth it in the end!!!

Pray for us.

Time to update my phone list!

Yesterday I got to make a phone call that I’m certain no parent likes to make.  First I called our family doctor and when I got their long winded message about office hours and numbers to call etc, I realized that it was the weekend and they were closed.  Luckily they do provide numbers to call if it’s an afterhours emergency.  I quickly scribbled those numbers down and started dialing at the same time.  I reached a some guy who took my name, number and type of emergency.  He calmly told me a nurse would be calling within minutes.  And he did.  I once again explained my emergency, Isabelle has chewed/sucked on an airfreshener.  Within moments of finding her in the hallway crying, saying that someone had broke the air freshener and that she then put it in her mouth, she was throwing up.  Thankfully Isabelle is well trained to throw up in a toilet or bucket.  She continued to be sick while I spoke to the nurse.  The nurse seemed to think that Isabelle most likely did not ingest enough to make her very sick.  She showed no signs of breathing difficulty and was alert and responsive to all the questions I asked her that the nurse asked me.  She did however put us through to Poison Control because they could really make the call based on what the ingested.  However, PC also agreed that Isabelle was okay and just needed to be monitored until bedtime.  If she started to present any breathing difficulty that we were to get her to the ER right away.  The air freshener is oil based and if aspirated into the lungs she would run into many complications.  She said Isabelle was likely ill due to the taste, and the alcohol that is in it also.  The lady from Poison Control was fantastic.  She even called back at Isabelle’s bed time to check in to make sure everything was okay and that Isabelle was doing well.  And she is doing well and feeling well aside from her stuffed up nose.

This was a terrifying experience for me.  Ian also came home to make sure all was okay.  I bet that drive for him was just as terrifying if not worse.  I had no idea what to do, I mean I honestly never thought I would have to talk to Poison Control.  It also made me realize that I was seriously not prepared in the phone number department.  I can’t even tell you where a phone book is to look these numbers up.  This has made me sit back and re evaluate how much we (I) depend on the internet for things.  Need a number?  Google.  Need an address?  Google.  But that takes time, and I didn’t know how much time I had.  For all I knew, I was about to throw all three kids in the van and drive to the hospital.  What a fucking nightmare that would be.  Excuse my language, but as a mother of 3 toddlers it would be a @#*($(#*@) nightmare.  I’m so thankful that she didn’t get more in her than she did.  We had a very serious sit down with the three of them about how there are things in the house that they are NOT to put their little hands on.  They have their things and Mommy and Daddy have theirs.  And they are not to TOUCH ANYTHING that belongs to Mommy and Daddy unless we say so.  I realize they probbaly don’t retain much of this information, but I am going to make sure they do.

March 8th is coming.  What is March 8th?  POTTY TRAINING!  I hope to have the twins trained in 3 days.  I’ve read up on how to do this in 3 days, and Ian is going to read the manual as well.  And we are going to stay in, and get them trained and out of diapers.  I am so looking forward to this.  I swear if I have to change another stinky poopy diaper I might just make them do it themself!!  And honestly, diapers are stupidly expensive and I’m tired of paying for them.

I’m also looking forward to the day the kids can get themselves up, get their own breakfast, eat, clean up and just let me sleep in a little longer……
